CAN PEMF DEVICES BE USED WITH STIMULATORS?

Transcript: One of the major contraindications with magnetic field therapy is implanted electronics. You can use magnetic field therapy away from the stimulator, whether it’s a pacemaker, defibrillator, or a pain stimulator, but you can’t have it close to the actual control unit itself because that’s an electrical device.  You need to be a foot or two feet away from it, at least.  You have to find out whether your particular electronic device is what’s called MRI conditional. If it’s MRI conditional, in other words, it can possibly be used in an MRI, then you’re almost certainly safe.

The biggest risk comes from very high-intensity systems.  For very low-intensity whole body systems like the Flex Pulse, the Micropulse, Parmeds Home System, most of those are probably safe enough and you don’t have to worry about it because the magnetic field drops off very rapidly so by the time it hits the control unit, you’re safe. Still, the safest thing to do is to stay at least a foot to two feet away. When you have a very high-intensity PEMF system, you need to use very low intensities a foot to two feet away from the control unit. That’s a really important contraindication. There aren’t many contraindications for PEMFs, but that’s one of them.
