Flexpulse is a product that we have imported from Germany. We were working with a manufacturer in Germany to develop a device that was portable, battery-operated, rechargeable, and had more flexibility in terms of the number of programs that were available. None of the other PMF systems, the portable PMF systems at least that we had allowed this level of flexibility. The different programs that we have in it are based on the frequencies program. One for example is 10 Hertz, 10 cycles per second. 10 cycles per second has been found in research with NASA to stimulate stem cell reproduction and tissue regeneration. Also 10 Hertz has been found in research in Germany to stabilize the circadian rhythms of the body. now there are the natural rhythms of the body plus additional research in the neurosciences has shown that 10 Hertz is a basic rhythm of the brain so when you do 10 hertz square wave stimulation of the of the brain you basically renormalize recalibrate the brain to become again more normal more balanced so when people are either very anxious or either potentially quite depressed then 10 Hertz tends to rebalance everything.
Some people call this alpha training program – this is a combination of 10 Hertz and 100 Hertz. One hundred Hertz has been found to be a specific frequency types of muscle. 10 Hertz is also seen in muscle as well, so what we did is worked with the manufacturer to develop a program, a set of programs, that did both. 10 Hertz and 100 hertz so it alternates between 10 Hertz and 100 Hertz every minute. This is really good generally for muscular skeletal type problems.
Program 3 is 3 Hertz. 3 Hertz is the deep sleep program in the brain so when the
brain is in deep sleep it tends to go to 3 Hertz, so this this frequency is very sedating, and it helps with sleep so it can be used to help people to fall asleep and also to stay asleep and because of the battery operation of the system and the coil flexibility then you could put it under the pillow and you can use it all night long. The next program is 7.8 Hertz. 7.8 Hertz is the Schumann resonance it’s also theta. The theta band theta frequency band for the brainwaves is also a learning state and it tends to be very relaxing so it’s light sleep and also very relaxing. Schumann resonance also considers this to be a balancing program as well in addition to 10 Hertz, 7.8, 3-7.8. The next program is 23 Hertz. 23 Hertz is in the beta range beta is our alert consciousness. That’s when we’re wide-awake we’re alert, we’re processing, we’re learning, were reading, we’re thinking, we’re talking to people, and so on so that’s our basic alertness program. Most of the time during the day we are running in beta. Beta can also be used for people who are driving long distances. For example, you want to stay alert if you’re doing a project in the middle of the day you have a little bit of a midday slump you can do 23 Hertz to either the brain or to the back of the neck or fundamentally anywhere in the body to stimulate that frequency. The last program was developed into the system because of a study done at Harvard where they found that 1,000 Hertz can be very important and very useful for our mood say people who become depressed acutely depressed with grief reactions and so on. 10,000 Hertz could be very useful for that those kinds of needs, so this new system also offers us the capacity to do long term treatments it offers us the capacity to set the intensities it allows us to set the times from 10 minutes up to 60 minutes. After 60 minutes basically converts to continuous so this is the flexible system.
The Parmeds (Curatron) Flash PEMF machine creates very high intensity Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields up to 7,000 Gauss. Ideal for treating musculoskeletal conditions, improving circulation and reducing pain and swelling. The Parmeds (Curatron) FLASH PEMF machine is suitable for clinical or in-home use. The unit has 10 programs offering a wide choice for various treatment possibilities. In addition to these 10 standard programs, there is the optional PEMF Flash software that allows practitioners to keep track of patient data and to create custom treatment protocols. Depending on the program you chose, treatment time is between 5 and 30 minutes. This is an affordable mid to high intensity system that is sturdy and will withstand the test of time with continuous use. To learn more about the technical information and see the product itself head over to our store and visit the product page.
Formerly the Curatron Systems, the Parmeds brand of PEMF devices are very versatile, relatively high-intensity full-body PEMF systems. In this video, Dr. Pawluk explains when and why he suggests this system for patients.
The Parmeds Ultra 3D System is a high intensity whole body system with computer connectivity. The complete package includes the optional Butterfly Coil accessory.
This unit has 10 unique preset programs. Each program contains various frequencies. When the control unit is connected to a computer, 72 additional programs become available, and the user also has the option to create their own programs.
The maximum intensity is 500 gauss (50,000 microTesla) on the whole-body 3D mat. Intensities for preset programs are not adjustable. On the user-created programs, intensities can be adjusted from 20% to 150% in 10% increments. The butterfly coil pad accessory reaches a maximum intensity of 1,600 gauss (160,000 microTesla).
Treatment times are preset based on which program you have selected, and range from 20 to 30 minutes. For user-created programs, treatment time can be adjusted from 1 to 99 minutes.
This is the par meds system made by Curatron. I really got involved with this system primarily because it has a high intensity application. It’s got number of different applicators both
half body & whole body and pillow applicators and in fact actually the pillow applicators come in different intensities.
I like that because it gives me the opportunity then to manage the intensities that we need for people with various problems. It comes pre-designed with about ten programs. In it the specific frequency sets so there’s one set of programs that are about 20% of the intensity that you normally have, and the rest are higher intensity 100% and up to 150% this system fits right in the middle of between extremely high intensity systems and the basic medium intensity systems.
I use it a lot and recommend that extensively we’ve had tremendous results with patients with this and other individual’s treatment courses are very simple. The programs are fairly simple to use, and the manual is pretty self-explanatory so it could be used for a whole range of health conditions it doesn’t matter what you get or even though you may have. A very bad back problem? Which is one of the common reasons I recommend it. It could still be used for a range of other health conditions. The other thing I like about the system is it was extensively
studied in Israel in hospitals and the doctors and that’s how some of these frequency sets became evolved or how they came to be. This machine has that legacy of evaluation and research with a high intensity system that you expect. Making sure that these have been used in a setting to treat people is very important so that products like this can (safely) be sold to the consumer to use in home.
The TeslaFit duo is a unique medium to high intensity PEMF system, delivering a maximum intensity of around 5220 Gauss. It is unique in that it essentially has two separate pulsed PEMF systems inside the control unit. Other PEMF systems that have two channels do not allow separate control of intensity and time for each channel. The two separate channel system allows individuals to treat two areas of the body at the same time effectively almost doubling the intensity between applicators for individual personal use. For professional use, two applicators can be used for a single individual or two separate individuals can be treated simultaneously, while individually adjusting the intensity and time. This can dramatically increase the effective throughput of a practice.
For individual use, the TeslaFit Duo can treat two different areas of the body at the same time decreasing the total treatment time needed. An example is treating the back and knees at the same time. Or, an individual may be able to treat a single area of the body, such as the chest, to the front and the back at the same time, effectively creating a magnetic sandwich with a higher magnetic field intensities between the two applicators.
An additional unique feature of this system is that it allows a choice between separate channels to operate or two channels simultaneously. When two separate channels are used, the full power of each channel goes to each one separately, alternating back and forth, allowing maximum PEMF intensity to be used. This is especially useful when the highest intensities are needed. When the simultaneous mode is chosen the power is divided in half to each channel. This means the applicators are pulsing at the same rate, time and intensity.
There are opportunities to use two applicators combined covering a larger area simultaneously, for example, the back and the lower extremities.
The real value of the TeslaFit Duo system is the flexibility in selecting treatment times, programs and intensities. Even though the maximum intensity is lower than many other much higher intensity systems, the practicality always the higher intensities. Often, the highest intensities available from the higher intensity systems cannot be used because of individual sensitivity. So, the duo is going to be more efficient for both personal and professional use.

The PEMF 120 (known as the PEMF-100 in Europe) is a high-intensity system for local and whole-body applications and is generally used by clinicians. In this video, Dr. Pawluk explains when and why he would use or recommend the PEMF-120 system.
This is the PEMF 120. This system is derived from a Greek system that was much bigger much bulkier and the engineering on it has been improved tremendously. I like this system and I use it because it’s important in specific situations that are not accessible or not managed by other magnetic systems.
It has an extremely high field intensity. The field intensity is so strong that it can actually initiate muscle contractions, and if you do it improperly you can actually damage the muscle. The amount of contractions can be so powerful that it can actually be damaging so you have to be careful around implants, you have to be careful around fillings, and so again it’s a professional level system. It can be used by consumers but it should be used under professional guidance, instruction, direction, or support but it does a tremendous job! I use it in my practice regularly. I use it for patients with stubborn problems that are not getting better by with other devices. I’ve had a number of spectacular successes with it, a number of people just did not respond to anything else, so again it has a part in a repertoire of different devices. It can be used for health maintenance, as there is a whole-body pad that’s used at the lowest level of intensities on the system. Most of the applicators in this system are designed for specific treatment areas for local application essentially but as I said there is a whole-body system which is actually very nice I have used it myself many times that can be gentle and safe to use.
This machine has a wide range of uses as intensities, so you should make sure you have the proper knowledge and support before starting to use a system such as this with a super high intensity.
The Almag is a local PEMF device. In this video, Dr. Pawluk explains when and why he suggests the Almag device for patients.
This is the Almag pulsed electromagnetic therapy device. This is a Russian-made system that I like very much because it’s portable and it’s very durable in its construction and every one of these coils produces a magnetic field so when you measure the magnetic field from this it produces a very large field around the body so the intensity of this system is about 200 Gauss, which is very nice.
It’s got only one frequency, so it makes it very simple to operate. So, if you got back problems or if you have our osteoporosis or osteopenia and neck problems or shoulder problems it gets a very substantial part of the body so putting it on like for example my thigh here the magnetic field can go out about two to three feet. It’s very simple to operate and runs for 20 minutes then shuts itself off. If you want to run it longer you turn it on and off. Plug it into a power strip and run another 20 minutes so you could run it up upwards of five hours a day. I don’t recommend that much but you can run it for a long period of time. It still requires current to operate but again portable very easy to use. I use it on patients and use it on family members, pets, etc. Being that it is so simple to use, I frequently recommend this for people who want something where they can simply plug it in and the machine does most of the work.
The Sota Magnetic Pulser is a local, powerful PEMF device. In this video, Dr. Pawluk explains when and why he suggests the Sota device for patients.
This is the SOTA magnetic pulser. It comes in a nice carrying case and this is the control unit and this is the actual magnetic inducer produces the magnetic field when you turn it on. Press the button here and it’ll beep and then you’ll see these green lights flashing on it they gradually light up and then finally they turn red there’s a little lightning bolt sign there and that when it flashes red it indicates that it’s just released the magnetic pulse. You can turn the sound on and off as well. The soda name is on one side of the paddle and on the other side it says use this side. The magnetic field coil is in here and when it’s running after a while because the coil is in case that’s enclosed it heats up, it’s like a heating pad in a sense but it’s much more intense so the longer you run it the hotter it may get.
All you really need to do then is to take the side that says put against this so I put it up against the part of the body that you want treatment and you could leave it there for the whole twenty minutes if you want. If it’s a particularly bad problem or you can say maybe do five minutes in this location you could do five minutes in the other shoulder you could put over a hip or over a knee, an abdomen, or over the chest to treat bronchitis, an elbow for carpal tunnel. Basically any problem that you have in the body that you want to energize and to treat you can put it up against the skin that’s not a problem, it will go right through clothing, it’ll go through leather, it will go through your shoes so you actually you could actually treat a plantar fasciitis or a heel spur just put it under the shoe. You don’t need to take the shoe off because it’ll go right on through. You’ll discover for yourself what ways you want to use it the best, how much time you need to use it for. I would normally recommend using it at least once a day preferably at the end of the day so you can combine it with other pulsed magnetic field therapies.
The HUGO INTENSE is unique in that it uses dual full body mats delivering high intensity electromagnetic field pulses above and below the body simultaneously.

Most physicians don’t realize that “fewer than half of the patients prescribed some of the most expensive drugs actually derived any benefit from them,” according to GlaxoSmithKline Worldwide Vice President of Genetics Allen Roses.
To work, a medication has to be properly metabolized, absorbed and utilized. How you will respond to a medication is as unique as your fingerprints. Only a test that tests how your genetics affects a medicine, called pharmacogenetics (PGx for short), can forecast how you will be affected by hundreds of medications.
Fortunately, today there is a way you can find out if you are at risk from your medications. This is done by getting a simple pharmacogenomics test (PGx) through a cheek swab. Much of the information in this piece is taken from the website parallelprofile.com. We have nothing to gain financially from this recommendation.
What I do want you to know is that medications can be vital in many circumstances and may not be able to be avoided. So, if you have to rely on medications, at least be safe.
I also know that PEMFs do not carry any of the genetic risks of medications, and, based on my experience as an MD, are much safer, less potentially toxic and can be as or more effective. In addition, PEMFs can frequently actually help to heal or strengthen the tissues that can cause the health problems.
This video is about overweight, obesity and PEMFs. It is based on a blog on DrPawluk.com.
Carrying excess weight has significant health implications beyond what is traditionally talked about. Overweight is a body mass index [BMI] of 25 to 30. Obesity is a BMI over 30. Weight related problems include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, gallbladder disease, arthritis, sleep apnea, increased cancer risk, skin aging and others.
The underlying cause of many of these conditions is inflammation. This quiet, constant, background inflammation has been found to be caused by the fatty tissue itself, in those carrying extra weight. The more weight, the more inflammation. Even adolescents who are overweight have been to have elevated inflammation markers in the blood. The damage in the body caused by chronic inflammation happens over years and decades. It is not an overnight problem. There are many resources available for weight control and reduction and this should be an important goal to pursue. For most people with excess weight, returning to normal weight becomes a lifelong challenge. I’m not going to get into how to reduce excess weight or how to prevent excess weight gain.
Instead, I want to focus on what is less often discussed, and, that is, inflammation and how PEMFs can help today to reduce the consequences of the chronic inflammation associated with excess weight. Reducing inflammation is much more easily attainable than losing weight, and at the same time helps with most of the health conditions associated with excess weight.
So, let’s begin. The fatty tissue throughout the body functions as an energy storage organ. The distribution of fat in the body is important too. There is the fat under the skin and fat inside the belly. Fat inside the belly is called the visceral fat compartment. This produces the so-called Apple body shape. The visceral fat has a larger role in increasing the risk of inflammation, insulin resistance, diabetes and cholesterol problems. In fact, all fatty tissue acts as an endocrine organ producing many molecules, called adipokines.
Adipokines can act as hormones. Two of at least 5 adipokines, you may have heard about, are called leptin and adiponectin. While these adipokines are produced in normal fatty tissue, most are produced in much higher amounts with excess weight. These adipokines are very active in the metabolism of the body from within the fatty tissue itself, messing with the way it normally works. Leptin and adiponectin are part of a class of molecules called cytokines. Cytokines improve communication between cells.
Leptin is a pro-inflammatory cytokine, which can cause inflammation throughout the body. The inflammation in fatty tissue further INCREASES leptin levels leading to even further fat development – a vicious circle. Adiponectin is an anti-inflammatory cytokine, working to balance the effects of the pro-inflammatory cytokines. It enhances insulin actions, helps glucose levels and protects the vascular system. The amount of adiponectin DECREASES with increasing obesity. Lower adiponectin levels allow more inflammation and increase the risk for osteopenia and osteoporosis and fatty liver. PEMFs are well-known to reduce inflammatory cytokines and increase anti-inflammatory cytokines. There is a blog on drpawluk.com explaining how PEMFs reduce inflammation by affecting adenosine and the adenosine receptor. https://www.drpawluk.com/blog/pemfs-and-adenosine/
PEMFs can help excess weight and obesity in several ways:
Since the visceral abdominal fat compartment is the greatest source of inflammation with obesity, applying PEMFs to the abdomen with a wide enough applicator, at an optimal intensity, daily, will significantly help with visceral inflammation and prevent the release of pro-inflammatory weight-related cytokines throughout the body.
A better option would be to apply sufficient intensity whole-body PEMFs to help inflammation in not only in the visceral abdominal fat and the fat under the skin, but also the systemic effects of the inflammation caused by the release of inflammatory molecules by any excess fat.
You can read more about obesity and inflammation in my book, Power Tools for Health and the adenosine blog and the obesity blog on the DrPawluk.com website.
In a previous video I introduced the idea of the importance of the intensity of the magnetic field needed for magnetic field therapy to give the best results. This video now goes into more detail about the intensity needed to treat inflammation. PEMFs have long been found to help with inflammation and tissue repair and regeneration. It is now known that much of this action of PEMFs against inflammation is done by stimulating a molecule in the body called adenosine and its cell adenosine receptors.
Recent PEMF research found that there is an optimum PEMF intensity needed to stimulate the adenosine receptors on the white blood cells. These are the primary immune cells used by the body to combat inflammation. Adenosine is considered the guardian angel of the tissues of the body to protect against runaway inflammation. PEMFs increase adenosine throughout the body. Adenosine is needed to produce and release ATP from the mitochondria of cells. ATP is the major source of energy in body tissues. As inflammation anywhere in the body increases, a major increase in ATP is needed to control it. In chronic inflammation, the tissues involved often cannot produce enough ATP. As a result, inflammation persists, damaging tissues and impairing bodily functions.
So, what is the optimum PEMF intensity required? 1.5 mT or 15 Gauss is the optimal intensity at the adenosine receptor on the white blood cell. Since inflammation can happen anywhere in the body, the starting intensity of the magnetic field required to combat inflammation needs to be considered to give 15 Gauss at whatever depth the tissues are that need treatment. Since magnetic field intensity drops off very rapidly as the field leaves the source of the magnetic field, the intensity of the magnetic field produced has to be considered or calculated based on the depth of the treated tissue.
As an example, if the kidneys are being treated, the depth and the size of the kidneys needs to be considered. In an average person the magnetic field has to achieve 15 Gauss at about 4 inches [10 cm] into the body. That means the starting magnetic field needs to be about 1820 gauss. This same type of calculation needs to be done anytime the body is being treated with a PEMF.
There is a table in a blog on DrPawluk.com that gives these numbers. The blog is called PEMFs, the “guardian angel” adenosine and inflammation. https://www.drpawluk.com/blog/pemfs-and-adenosine/ From this table you will know what the starting magnetic field needs to be. It is possible that weaker magnetic fields than optimal may still have value deep in the body, but in my experience, results are less predictable and may take longer, because less adenosine is being produced.
Americans are taking massive amounts of painkillers. Let me give you some interesting facts I have found. Painkillers include not only opioid narcotics, such as oxycodone, but also other common, prescribed or even over-the-counter, non-opiod pain medications.
Opiod use is often defined by morphine milligram equivalents or MME. In 1999 the MME per person was 180 and in 2015 it rose 3-fold to 640! 640 MME per person equals 5 mg of hydrocodone every 4 hours. In 2015, the amount of opiates prescribed was enough for every American to be medicated around the clock for 3 weeks. Even at low doses, taking an opioid for more than 3 months increases the risk of addiction by 15 times. A dose of 50 MME or more per day doubles the risk of opioid overdose death, compared to 20 MME or less per day. And, at 90 MME or more, the risk increases to 10 times. The vast majority of people who died from opioids had visited their doctor and received a prescription for oxycodone within a month of their death. Because of an increase in prescription narcotic overdoses, drug deaths now outnumber traffic fatalities in the United States. From 1999 to 2017, almost 218,000 people died in the United States from overdoses related to prescription opioids. Drugs were a cause of death in 2009 of at least 37000 people, according to the U.S. CDC. 8 years later, more than 72,000 Americans died from drug overdoses.
This opiod crisis is bad enough, but most people are not even aware that other commonly used prescription and nonprescription non-opioid pain medications are also potentially dangerous. One of the most commonly used medication groups is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), like aspirin and ibuprofen. NSAIDs have been found to cause about 16,000 deaths per year, due to gastric bleeding. In addition, NSAIDs damage the kidneys and liver, adding to the disease burden and death toll from them significantly. It has been estimated that a woman using ibuprofen only during every period of her life for PMS increases the risk of kidney failure by 400% after menopause.
The chronic use of NSAIDs, also reduces the body’s capacity long term to heal itself from injury or tissue damage. Besides the risks from NSAIDs, Tylenol or acetaminophen, damage the liver. Thousands of people a year end up with liver failure due to unwitting acetaminophen overuse. Acetaminophen is often hidden in over-the-counter medications, like cold and flu formulas. People are innocently overdosing with it.
So, we have a massive pain management problem in the US. It has been estimated that there are over 100 million people in the US, across all age groups, races and genders with chronic pain. Not only are there significant risks from opioids and other non-opioid medications, there are significant risks from the procedures used to help with pain, often resulting in even worse pain situations. Sometimes these procedures are absolutely necessary and appropriate. Unfortunately, alternative therapies are often not tried 1st or at all. PEMFs are an important pain management option. PEMFs should be considered 1st before opiates are used, especially if they may be needed beyond a week or 2. The same can be said for NSAIDs. Use beyond a week or 2 increases the risk of gastric bleeding. Kidney damage risk increases with regular use over months.
You wouldn’t normally consider getting a PEMF system only for a short-term pain problem.
But, if your pain problem is chronic, lasting beyond a month or more, is very likely to last beyond a month or more, or due to a cause that is not going away, such as arthritis, PEMFs can be an ideal solution. They are safe, non-toxic and noninvasive and can be applied in the home setting at your own convenience. In addition, they can be used for many other health conditions not only for you but also for other household or family members, including pets.

Carpal Tunnel (CTS) affects one out of ten people during their lifetime. The main symptoms are pain, numbness, and tingling in the thumb, index finger, middle finger. Symptoms are common at night. Pain may go up the arm. There may be a weak grip and even muscle loss at the base of the thumb. Often any movement of the hand is painful. Working at a computer becomes almost impossible. The risk of not doing adequate and early, aggressive treatment is permanent damage to the median nerve.
As a family doctor I often saw people with carpal tunnel. My father had it and so do I. I would wake up at night with my hand completely numb. I know all the ways CTS is treated. I know that steroid injections don’t help for long, if at all. I know that surgery fails about 10% of the time and that 25% don’t have good results or have complications. I know a number of people with lifetime disability because of failed CTS surgery. So, a simple and easy, at-home solution is to combine a nighttime splint along with a portable PEMF device that can be worn all day if needed. That’s what I did. I had moderately severe CTS. Within two weeks of doing this my symptoms were almost completely gone. Now, I only occasionally have to do spot treatments when I have a little flair. I still use my nighttime splint. I had an ultrasound that showed a 37% improvement in the swelling of the nerve. So, I still have some nerve irritation left over, even though my symptoms have almost all gone. Since I knew the general value of PEMFs and now that I had personal PEMF experience for my own CTS, I looked into the research evidence for using PEMFs for CTS.
The research not only looked at symptom improvement but also nerve function tests. All the studies showed significantly better symptoms and up to 73% better nerve conduction. Adding antioxidants improves results even more. One important study compared PEMFs to surgery and found that PEMFs were actually slightly better than surgery, without the risks. This study only treated one hour at a time for 16 treatments. The limitations of research don’t allow for optimal treatment time for people. So, using higher PEMF intensities, for longer times per day, and over several weeks, produces better results. Also, since CTS can recur it’s best to have your own PEMF device. At home PEMF treatments for as many hours as possible with a portable 200 Gauss device combined with a night splint, a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidants, would produce the best results. This approach avoids the need to have invasive procedures, painful nerve conduction testing, steroid injections and multiple visits to various practitioners. If portable, personally owned, at-home PEMFs used for an adequate amount of time fail, surgery is a fallback option. Even then the PEMF system will speed recovery and reduce the risk of complications. Another important factor is to start treatment as soon as possible after any symptoms begin. The more severe the CTS symptoms and nerve conduction damage, the less chance for full recovery.
One of the most common questions that I hear from people is, “Are magnetic fields bad for me?” There is much confusion about this. Healthy EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) restore cellular function and communication. The main differences between good and bad EMFs is exposure time, intensity and frequency. Good EMFs are meant to heal the body and are in control of the user. Bad EMFs are not meant to heal the body and are usually out of the control of the user. Bad EMFs are also unknown in human nature until recently were not really understood their effects on humans. Good EMFs have a frequency range of less than 1000 pulses-per second or Hz. Power lines have a 50-60 Hz when clean. These Power lines are almost always filled with bad waves.
Confusion often stems from our electric power grids using 50-60 Hz frequencies, which fall within the same frequency range as many therapeutic PEMFs. There are a few important differences to keep in mind when comparing these EMF sources. By far, the strongest man-made magnetic fields are emitted from high voltage transmission lines (which are the big metal towers, not the single wires that tend to run through neighborhoods on wooden poles). It is generally accepted that a “safe distance” from large power lines is about 700 feet (or 0.1 mile), and a “safe distance” from the neighborhood lines is as little as ten feet.
The intended 50-60 Hz frequency of power lines is becoming increasingly contaminated with surges of radio frequency EMF radiation, often referred to as “dirty electricity.” Modern electrical devices tend to induce high levels of these surges or spikes back into the electrical system. Therefore, our power grids are contaminated with frequencies much higher than the intended 50-60 Hz and it is likely that these high-frequency, short-wavelength surges are the cause for some concern.
PEMFs can be used to counter these dirty frequencies by using various devices that cleanup said emitted frequencies. Therapeutic ELF PEMFs pose almost no harm to the body as has been shown with use over five decades and by millions of people. Therapeutic ELF PEMFs, because of their much longer wavelengths, pass completely through the body, energizing cells, helping to re-balance and restore body functions and health. Daily use of whole body healthy PEMFs can help significantly to offset the negative effects of undesirable environmental magnetic fields.

Sleep problems are common and do not have a single cause. Insomnia, for example, is not a disease. There is no single definition of insomnia that applies to all people with that problem. Multiple aspects are at play in any given person’s sleep problem, including stress and anxiety levels. Sleeplessness itself varies dramatically from person to person, with some people struggling to fall asleep (latency) and others struggling to stay asleep, alongside physical urges like needing to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, hot flashes, or suffering with pain. Pulsed electromagnetic fields can help improve the quantity and quality of sleep. Why do we need PEMFs for sleep?
There are many risks to not sleeping steadily or deeply for 7 or more hours a night. Here is a short list:
Some of the commonly used medications for helping with sleep have been shown to increase the risk of dementia even after only a few weeks of use. We all need a better safe solution for helping with sleep, this is why we should use PEMFs for sleep. Brainwave patterns in people without sleep would become abnormal. There are four basic brainwave patterns:
Beta is awake alertness. Alpha is a relaxed mind. Theta is light sleep or deep meditation and Delta is deep sleep. Deep sleep is essential to health and basic sleep problems are falling asleep and staying asleep, with the most common being staying asleep. One way to help with sleep problems safely and without drugs is to tune the brainwaves coaxing the brain into Delta sleep using magnetic deep sleep frequencies a number of research studies have been shown using magnetic field sleep frequencies that change the brainwaves and help people sleep better.
One study using higher intensity magnetic fields even found them to be better than medication or counseling. Other researchers found that continuous magnetic stimulation through the night improves sleep better than irregular stimulation. I use a portable battery-operated PEMF device called the Flex Pulse all night long under my pillow or under my head set at the deep sleep frequency 3 Hertz. I started using this device because my sleep patterns were not consistent and my ability to stay focused during the day was affected. I have never slept as well as I do now that I used my Flex Pulse every night all night. In addition, other family members even children, can safely use the Flex Pulse for sleep. It’s also used for various aches and pains you can read more about the Flex pulse and PEMFs for sleep at drpawluk.com.
So, even though low-frequency pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) can be very helpful for enhancing and maintaining sleep, these benefits can be easily undone by environmental high-frequency EMFs. Stresses, whether physiologic or emotional, can affect circadian rhythms (the roughly 24-hour cycle of the body).
It’s one thing to say that PEMFs can help with sleep, but it’s much better if this is supported by research. A number of research studies have been carried out using magnetic fields to help with sleep.
If you have chronic pain, you have a chronic pain brain. If you have a loved one or friend with chronic pain, they have chronic pain brains too. If you have memory issues, depressed mood, anxiety, can’t sleep, brain fog and you have chronic pain, then you have a chronic pain brain. In other words, the brain develops changes that are related to chronic pain. All pain signals go to the brain that’s where we perceive the pain stubbing your toe will cause acute pain. This signal goes to the brain as the toe heals the pain goes away the pain signal will also go away or extinguish from the brain. In other words, the memory track of the pain signal in the brain will disappear but if the pain continues for weeks or months this will become chronic pain and will cause chronic changes in the brain or the chronic pain brain.
Any pain in the body that persists beyond the time of healing can be considered chronic pain even very strong acute pain signals can convert to chronic pain brain. All pain signals whether acute or chronic enter the brain and disperse throughout the brain as if they were a large deck of dominoes. Every pain signal can involve as much as 10% of the brain this means that about 8 to 10 billion neurons or brain cells are activated by the pain signal.
These are not even specific pain cells in the brain there are less than 100 of these the activated cells are all the other cells in the brain that get turned on by the pain signal most of this nerve traffic stimulated by the pain signal goes to two parts of the brain: the limbic system and the frontal cortex.
The limbic system is the seat of emotion in the brain, especially fear and sadness and also includes memory of past events. The frontal cortex is the decision-making part of the brain and deals with short-term memory pain signals that are constantly firing even from minimal pain are constantly activating this whole system when this happens the suffering mental and emotional from even small amounts of chronic pain can way exceed the level of pain even if the pain goes away completely the brain structures stimulated by the chronic pain signal continue to be active causing chronic suffering. This is the chronic pain brain and most current techniques for dealing with chronic pain either don’t work well or cause their own problems hence the opioid crisis. Various aspects of addiction involved the same structures in the brain as chronic pain so what is a safe non-toxic and effective way to help the brain and suffering in somebody with chronic pain? Magnetic field therapies applied to the brain in many research studies have shown significant benefit to relieve the suffering. A portable battery-operated magnetic field pulsed electromagnetic field or PEMF device can be used across the brain to help the chronic pain. It is easy to apply is readily available for home use and can be used for hours at a time and even overnight. These PEMFs can also help with poor sleep in people with chronic pain and hasten the healing of the tissues causing the pain whether from: arthritis, back pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, tendinitis, carpal tunnel and many more. PEMFs give help to many aspects of the pain problem and reduce the dependence on opioids you could read more about this on our blog on our website at drpawluk.com.
In other blogs on our website, https://www.drpawluk.com/blog/sleep-pemfs/ and https://www.drpawluk.com/blog/concussion-and-tbi/, among others, we talk about the use of PEMFs for brain entrainment and repair. Entrainment and brain stimulation are also discussed in the book Power Tools for Health https://www.drpawluk.com/product/power-tools-health/.
There is a huge amount of information available on the internet now about various kinds of pulsed magnetic fields or PEMF therapy systems, much of it is conflicting. Individuals, manufacturers, ad professionals post opinions much of it is not scientifically accurate.

No. I speak to many people about choosing a PEMF system once they decided a PEMF system can help them. The first thing I need to know is what they are using it for. Is it for a problem that just began and is likely to be self-limited or is it for a chronic problem? Is there one area involved or are there multiple areas? Next, we consider whether it should be to treat the whole body or mostly for local problems, such as a knee, elbow, shoulder, head and so on. Is there electrical or magnetic field sensitivity? Answers to these questions allows me to narrow down the choices. The next consideration is magnetic field intensity. Next is what frequency or frequencies may be needed? I can only give some examples in this video. More information is available in the Power Tools for Health book or the DrPawluk.com website.
Most of the time either medium or high intensities are used to resolve specific health issues. Very low intensity PEMF systems, that is, under 10 Gauss, whether whole body or local, are best for health maintenance. They can still help many problems but are just not as effective as quickly. Whole body problems, such as osteopenia or osteoporosis, will require a whole-body system. Whole body systems vary in intensity from under one Gauss to upwards of 1500 Gauss. Whole body PEMF systems under one Gauss can be nearly as expensive as 1000 gauss devices, but they would be considered less likely to be as effective. Superficial problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, tendinitis, bursitis muscle strains and sprains, and even fractures of the hands and feet, can be dealt with by medium intensity devices, used 1 to 2 hours a day for one to several weeks. Once a problem feels better, it is not necessarily healed, and treatment may need to be continued for weeks or months. Owning a PEMF system allows flexibility to set one’s own schedule for self-treatment. Frequencies are most important when it comes to considerations of impact on the nervous system, particularly for reducing anxiety or stress, improving pain, helping with sleep, increasing alertness, the need to stimulate stem cells and so on. That means devices that allow control over the selection of frequencies become important for these situations. Selection of frequencies is also important in people with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and any treatments to the head. High intensity PEMF systems become much more important when dealing with problems deep in the body, such as in the spine, abdomen, chest or brain. They are also more helpful in people who have limited time to be able to do their treatments. The rule of thumb is: higher intensity tends to work better and faster, and often less daily treatment time will be needed.
I know making choices about which PEMF system to get can still be confusing to people, but this information will give you some general guidelines for how devices are selected or recommended by DrPawluk.com.
Children can suffer from chronic pain like adults, as well as become addicted to opioids, just like adults. There are many different causes: injuries, hyperflexible joints, inflammation, stomach pains, bone disorders, complex regional pain syndrome or RSD, migraines, concussions, sickle cell disease, fibromyalgia, or neuropathy. Sometimes children have pain amplification syndrome or AMPS.
The pain in children can be handled with safe treatments like PEMFs. Not only can PEMFs treat the source of the pain but also the perception of the pain. Since children are developing physically, emotionally and behaviorally treatments need to be safe. Also, the brain and nervous system are still developing. Because of the risk of addiction and harmful neurological or cognitive effects, opioids should almost never be used in children. Other drugs can also cause negative side effects such as sleepiness, tiredness, constipation and abdominal pain. Avoiding drugs is especially important for pain for which there is no obvious cause, such as injury. Sometimes over-the-counter pain medications can be used when the pain is sudden or acute in onset, such as an injury, and can be expected to be self-limited. The use of PEMFs is especially important in pain that does not resolve after several days to a couple of weeks. After that, a longer-term solution like magnetic field therapy is best. PEMFs not only can help with the pain where it is felt, such as a knee, a hip or a belly, but can also be used to help to break the cycle of the brain’s reaction to the pain.
The brain’s reaction to pain can lead to chronic perception of pain even though the original problem is gone. This is called centralization of pain. Portable, battery operated PEMF systems can not only relieve pain locally but can also treat the brain or the nervous system to offload any nerve tissue memory of the perception of the pain. PEMFs, even in growing brains, have been found to be safe, tolerable, non-addicting and most importantly can heal the tissues. Children respond exceptionally well to PEMFs. In fact, in one study, the brains of animal newborns exposed to even high intensity magnetic fields did not show any evidence of harm and, in fact, showed increased cerebral cortex size. This is usually a positive sign as opposed to shrinkage. Therefore, because children are vulnerable to the negative effects of medications, and PEMFs are so safe, PEMFs should be a first line of treatment in children with chronic pain.
Inflammation gets a bad rap, while chronic inflammation is a problem in many ways, acute inflammation is needed for repair of damaged tissues. Whether from infection or injury chronic inflammation that is not controlled by the body is a major part of disease. Lifelong uncontrolled inflammation causes accumulated cell damage that results in aging. Chronic inflammation is the cause of many problems including arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and many cancers. Food is essential to our survival our foods can either be inflammatory or add to inflammatory. We need to eat fewer inflammatory foods and increase our anti-inflammatory. Foods such as red meat and refined carbohydrates cause inflammation so eliminating or reducing them in your diet can keep you healthier the body needs its own high levels of anti-inflammatory support molecules called antioxidants milder levels of chronic inflammation can be kept under better control and not allowed to become worse with more antioxidant rich foods, and aging will slow down. Chronic inflammation never sleeps so antioxidant, anti-inflammatory foods need to be consumed daily and preferably multiple times a day.
You are what you eat. We are all recommended to have at least 5 to 10 servings of antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables every day. Fortunately, most of these foods taste great, so eating foods and nutrients that Nature has provided and are readily available will go a long way to keeping your healthy.
Chocolate. No guilt dark chocolate with 70 percent or more cacao. Say no to milk chocolate, which is not healthy, due to the high content of sugar and fat.
Berries. These include especially blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries. They are delicious and packed with flavor as well as fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Fatty fish. Seafood high in Omega 3 oils, including mackerel (1.8% omega-3’s), lake trout (1.6%), herring (1.5%), sardines (1.4%), albacore tuna (1.3%), salmon (1.1%), halibut (0.6%), river trout (0.5%), catfish (0.4%), cod (0.3%), snapper (0.2%), or tuna packed in water (0.2%) are preferred. Not everyone loves seafood or it’s too costly, so taking a daily fish oil supplement is an alternative.
Cruciferous vegetables. These include broccoli, cauliflower, kale and brussels sprouts and are high in those all-important antioxidants.
Avocados. This tasty fruit can be used in so many ways and is packed with healthy fat, fiber and antioxidants. Include it in salads, sandwiches and dips, for example, guacamole, served with chips and veggies.
Green tea. You may begin your day with a cup of coffee. Coffee contains some antioxidants, but green tea is a better choice. Green tea provides some of the caffeine you need to quick-start your day, but it has a much higher antioxidant level, and other molecules that help to protect against cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease. And it is also available in a decaffeinated form while still preserving the other benefits.
Mushrooms, olive oil and tomatoes. These three foods are frequently used together in many healthy diets. Many Mediterranean diets include these ingredients. The combination has an impressive number of anti-inflammatory compounds. Lycopene in tomatoes reduces inflammation and protects against various cancers. Also, cooking tomatoes in olive oil increases the amount of lycopene that is absorbed. Mushrooms also contain anti-inflammatory compounds. But cooking can reduce the anti-inflammatory benefits. So, nutritionists recommend eating raw mushrooms or only slightly cooked.
Turmeric. Turmeric is not eaten alone. This spice has been used to flavor Indian dishes for hundreds of years. Curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory nutrient compound in turmeric. Curcumin is used to reduce the pain of arthritis and may also help prevent cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Turmeric absorption can be greatly increased if eaten with black pepper. Black pepper contains piperine or bioperine, which aid the absorption of curcumin.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the opioids crisis. A large percentage of people who have opioids addiction have been given prescription narcotics. Usually this is for pain of sudden onset, whether from surgery or injury. This situation too frequently leads to chronic dependency. People suffering with chronic pain often need long-term pain treatment. Again, narcotics are prescribed and often lead to addiction. Painkillers do nothing to treat the cause of the pain. It’s a way better strategy to deal with the cause of the pain that the simply cover it over. Pulsed magnetic fields, discussed when I was on the Dr. Oz show, are a much better solution, designed to heal the cause of the pain as well as provide pain relief. Here are some of the examples of how effective PEMFs are for pain.
Joint pain: In an 11-year study on 3,014 patients with joint pain, 79% effective.
Shoulder/rotator cuff pain 83%.
Carpal tunnel pain: 93% effective.
Back pain: 95% had pain relief in a series of studies. Including those suffering from— herniated discs, spinal nerve compression, sciatica, even worn cartilage.
Elbow pain: In a study on tennis elbow pain, PEMF was more effective than steroid injections. And patients treated with PEMF reported less pain during activity, at rest and while sleeping.
MIGRAINES: 88% effective. As a result, the FDA has approved magnetic therapy for migraines. These are only a few examples. PEMFs have been shown to relieve virtually every type of pain. And here’s something even more amazing: researchers discovered that PEMF produced an effect that was the equivalent of 10 mg of morphine for treating pain, safely and without the risk of addiction.
The bottom line is that opioids have created a crisis. The fact that they do nothing for the cause of the problem is an underlying issue. As you can see from the above studies, pulsed electromagnetic therapy should be considered when dealing with many forms of pain.

Close to 100 million people in the United States of all ages have chronic pain. The most common treatment for chronic pain is pharmaceutical drugs, whether prescribed or over-the-counter. People are becoming more and more aware of the risks and dangers of these drugs or medications and their relative ineffectiveness. Other conventional medical approaches include procedures, injections, physical therapy and surgery. All of these also have their drawbacks. Beyond these, other common approaches are acupuncture, chiropractic, supplements, yoga, meditation, etc. Most of these are also often temporary in their benefit and require multiple visits. What is needed is a very different approach to managing chronic pain. By definition chronic pain is something that is likely to last years if not a lifetime. That means the approaches to deal with chronic pain need to be consistent over long periods of time.
This is where magnetic field therapy [PEMFs for short] becomes a much more effective option. The R3 method is describes the three basic ways that PEMF therapy can produce short-term, medium-term and long-term changes in the body to heal chronic pain safely, noninvasively and without toxicity or procedures. The R3 method stands for: relieve, recover and restore. Relieving or reducing the pain itself happens very rapidly with PEMFs. Recover describes the need to heal the cause of the pain, that is to recover the damaged tissue producing the pain to the point where the pain is no longer present. In the long run recovery does not necessarily restore the tissue causing the pain to become normal again. So, the longer-term goal is to restore the tissue to be as normal as possible. Almost no other therapeutic approach, especially not medications or drugs, accomplish all the R3 steps. This is because PEMFs not only reduce the pain signals themselves, similar to what medications do, but also because of their basic actions deep in the tissues of the body, help to reduce the conditions in the tissues causing the pain, such as problems with circulation, inflammation, edema, muscle spasm, and the need for tissue repair. PEMFs can do this because they pass all the way through the body without being blocked or used up. By themselves the PEMFs I recommend have been proven safe as well as effective. They create energy in the tissues that help the body’s tissues to heal themselves. Thus, ultimately PEMFs are a completely natural, comprehensive approach to managing pain.
In 2003 NASA published a technical paper describing their research on the use of a 10 Hz pulsed square wave magnetic field or PEMF signal to stimulate neural stem cells.
In this research they discovered that this particular signal was able to increase the growth of neural stem cells by about 400%. They also found that this signal caused expression of about 150 growth factor genes involved in this increased stem cell production. Because of NASA’s success using this signal for stem cell growth enhancement, a number of PEMF manufacturers have included a 10 Hz signal in their PEMF devices. Some claim that they are using the NASA 10 Hz signal. This is not true for technical reasons. Even if a PEMF device has a 10 Hz square wave signal it cannot possibly be the same as the NASA signal unless the actual original NASA signal generator was used. Manufacturing is never the same from manufacturer to manufacturer, from chipset to chipset and even the material used in the manufacture of the chipset can differ. Still, this does not negate the value of a 10 Hz square wave signal. It is possible that other non-NASA 10 Hz square wave signals may have similar results on stem cell production, but this has not been proven. A 10 Hz signal is a brainwave frequency signal. It is in the alpha rhythm frequency range. That means it tends to be a relaxing frequency and being in the alpha band of the brain can tune the brain to a relaxed state, particularly if used around the brain. In fact, 10 Hz has been found to increase dopamine and 5-HTP levels, important for helping with depression. Research in Germany also indicates a 10 Hz can be very effective and helpful for restoring circadian rhythms that have gotten out of balance, for example in the jet lag seen from flights across multiple time zones.
Do I need a magnetic system that will just treat a part of my body or should I have a magnetic system that will treat my whole body? Should I purchase a local system? Or a whole-body system?
These are the two basic choices in choosing a system. If you only have a single part of the body that needs specific attention, such as a shoulder, knee, hip, heart and so on, a local applicator system would work well. Then you should just be aware that the right intensity needs to be chosen. If you have multiple areas that need treatment, a whole-body magnetic system would be the most efficient in terms of the time needed for treatment.
The question of intensity also needs to be answered. The deeper into the body the magnetic field has to penetrate and the stronger the magnetic field needs to be to treat the tissue adequately, the stronger the magnetic field of the whole-body system needs to be. Most whole-body systems have both a whole-body applicator and a smaller pad applicator. The smaller pad applicator is usually stronger than the whole-body applicator but typically significantly less strong than devices with only local applicators. Many whole-body devices are less than two G or 200 microT in maximum magnetic field intensity. These are best for health maintenance or for people with significant sensitivity. A research paper reviewing the effectiveness of these less intense PEMF systems has found that they are not as effective for specific health issues, for example arthritis, in general. Specific health conditions tend to be better managed with higher intensity whole body systems, for example over 25 gauss or 2.5 mT. Some of the best are over 150 gauss (15,000 microTesla) on the whole-body mat and 1,000 gauss (100,000 microTesla) for the small pad applicator. In another video I spoke about the importance of magnetic field intensity. Everybody needs health maintenance, if for no other reason than to slow down aging. So, even if local magnetic therapy is needed, everyone should consider whole body PEMF therapy. What some people do is to combine a lower cost lower intensity whole body PEMF system and a small portable battery-operated system for local needs, allowing freedom of movement.
Diabetes is common and increasing. The major complications of diabetes are vascular and neurologic. Vascular complications can be classified as large vessel and small vessel. Large vessel damage can involve the major blood vessels in the heart and extremities. Small vessel damage can involve the eyes, the kidneys, the brain and lead to peripheral neuropathy. Magnetic fields improve circulation in all blood vessels including those with diabetic damage.
One of my most dramatic situations was a patient who had dark purple legs from the knees down showing almost complete blockage of the blood vessels in his legs. His vascular surgeon was recommending amputations of both of his legs due to the severity of the problem. I was concerned that he was too far gone. But his family convinced me to try anyway. So, I started PEMF magnetic field therapy, diet and supplements. Over 3 months of daily treatments with the PEMF system his surgeon finally said to him I guess you don’t need amputations after all! THANK YOU PEMFs! I have another patient who is at risk of having his foot amputated due to small vessel disease causing breakdown of the bones in his foot. He had a draining wound in sole of his foot with major swelling of the whole foot. He was in a wound care program for over a year with little benefit. He started daily magnetic field therapy with a portable PEMF system and within one month he had dramatic reduction in the swelling and discomfort and healing of the wound. Two years later he has still not needed an amputation with continuing daily PEMF stimulation. In addition to circulation problems, there is some other research that shows that magnetic field stimulation of the pancreas may actually help to increase insulin production and decrease blood sugar levels with daily use. This would be especially helpful in later stage type II diabetes, possibly allowing these diabetics to reduce or stop their medications. For the best results most diabetics will need moderate intensity whole body PEMF treatment daily in the home setting.
A brief overview of how high intensity PEMFs are not just effective, but are completely safe.
High intensity PEMFs were first used medically with MRI machines to any part of the body at any age. The peak magnetic field intensities in MRIs range from 2 Tesla to 12 Tesla. A Tesla is 10,000 Gauss. It is generally considered to be very safe. More than 1 million FDA-approved treatments have been given since 2008 as a safe and effective treatment for adults with Major Depression using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS for short). rTMS uses repetitive pulses of a magnetic field to the brain of a maximum intensity of about 0.5 Tesla, or 5000 Gauss. There are now a number of PEMF devices available with maximum magnetic fields varying from about 2000 G to 20000 G. Research is showing that HIPEMFs can be used safely, and effectively, with appropriate training, across a wide range of conditions all over the body. Here are some examples from the rTMS research. In 1 study, a single person had 70 treatment sessions over 12 months, or 420,000 pulses, with no side effects. One 75-year old had 130 sessions over 26 months with 156,000 stimuli. 7 people had 60 sessions over 12 months with 72,000 stimuli. In another study, healthy men had 13,000 pulses a day for up to 3 days in one week. This equaled 39,000 magnetic pulses over one week, one of the largest exposures of rTMS reported to date. No significant side effects were seen. Newborn brains are considered especially vulnerable. The brains of newborn rats exposed to high intensity magnetic fields did not show any evidence of harm. There are nearly 10,000 scientific articles about high intensity PEMFs, with most showing benefits from treatment and with very low risk. For more on this subject, check out my blog post on intensity matters here!
There are about 100 trillion cells in the body. Each cell has about 2000 chemical processes happening every second. Anything that disrupts the ability of cells to do their normal metabolic processing can end up damaging the cell. A cell that is not working properly cannot absorb nutrients, supplements or even medications normally. Because of this imbalance of cell membrane function, the doors or channels from the outside of the cell to the inside of the cell stop working.
By reversing the imbalance in cell membrane function, PEMFs help to restore the channels in the cell and there are over 200 of them. When the channels are restored nutrients are able to get into cells better and metabolic waste is eliminated from the cells better. At this point the cells can become healthy again and nutrients are able to move into the cell better. Almost all PEMFs can restore cellular function and nutrient absorption. The amount of time that it would take for PEMFs to do this depends on the degree of damage to the cell and the type of cell involved. Nerve, cartilage and bone cells can take a long time to recover. But almost all cells can benefit from PEMF stimulation. Cellular dysfunction is more common and typically takes more time to recover as we get older. Infants and animals generally have faster capacity to recover. So, PEMFs used regularly are able to restore cell function before it gets to a point where significant cell damage happens and can keep the body younger, functioning better and slowing aging. When starting a regimen that includes PEMFs you can start out small and work your way up or do the opposite and work your way back down. As with any regimen, you need to make sure that you’re doing it regularly in order to see the full benefits of PEMF alongside your nutrients.
There is a good evidence that inflammation in the breast is an increased risk factor for the development of breast cancer. In fact, all cancers have associated inflammation. A number of factors increase breast inflammation:
breast cancer by ~30%.
PEMFs are well known to decrease chronic inflammation and restore normal tissue. Reducing inflammation lowers the risk of developing breast cancer. So, any woman with any of the above reasons to have chronic breast inflammation should consider PEMF therapy. Women with BBD or breast implants are strongly recommended to consider routine, preferably daily, use of PEMFs either locally or with whole body treatment.
In a 2013 study, the authors studied the potential for ultra-low intensity and frequency PEMFs to kill breast cancer cells. They wanted to see if the PEMFs in question could show: 1) toxicity to breast cancer cells and; 2) and they were not harmful to healthy cells. Breast cancer cells and normal cells were exposed to PEMFs and cell death indices were measured to determine which PEMFs best kill breast cancer cells. The PEMF parameters tested were: 1) frequencies ranging from 20 to 50 Hz; 2) intensities ranging from 2 mT (20 Gauss) to 5 mT (50 Gauss) and; 3) exposure times ranging from 30-90 minutes per day for up to three days. These were to determine the optimum parameters for selective cancer cell killing. At the end of the study they found a discrete optimal window of vulnerability of breast cancer cells to PEMFs of 20 Hz frequency, 3 mT (30 Gauss) magnetic field intensity and exposure duration of 60 minutes per day. PEMFs applied at a repetition rate of 50 Hz did not produce any noticeable effects on cell viability. The amount of cell damage seen in response to PEMFs increased with time and was even more significant after three days of consecutive daily exposures. By contrast, the optimal PEMF usage found to be the most damaging to breast cancer cells was not damaging to normal cells and were in fact slightly enhancing to normal cell function. However, based on the evidence from this study, other exposure times (that is, 90 minutes) and intensities 2 mT and 5 mT) were still very strongly effective for killing breast cancer cells, even though not optimal. That means that 20 Gauss and 50 Gauss PEMFs were also quite effective and both 60 minutes and 90-minute exposures were also effective.
While we have been hearing a lot about concussions in professional athletes, there is a silent epidemic of concussions that you’re not hearing about.
These are the average bangs to the head that happen in our daily lives. Most often people do not have obvious or true concussion symptoms. Medicine generally says that people recover from concussions without any long-term problems. Science is now showing that that is not the case. Even milder bangs to the head or mini–concussions, as I call them, leave footprints in the brain. I have seen many individuals with memory issues, emotional or cognitive changes and even headaches following these mini-concussions. Conventional medical care has nothing to offer to heal the brain for concussions. Most only treat symptoms with medications or cognitive therapy.
Because research shows that PEMFs have the possibility for healing the brain, I did a pilot study in my medical practice on 10 individuals with various levels of concussion or brain injury. All of them had continuing symptoms or problems as a result of their concussions. One woman only hit her head on a cabinet without even passing out. I used an objective scientific measure of brain function and a head injury questionnaire. They used a 10 Hz 200 gauss portable PEMF system to the head 2 hrs a day for 3 months. They were tested regularly. At the end they went off treatment for a month and were retested again. The results were dramatic. Everybody had obviously improved measures. Some improved within days and some took several weeks. All had some regression of symptoms when they stopped treatment, but no one reverted to baseline. This study provides hope and the possibility for actual brain healing and function improvement in people with both mini-concussions and more significant brain injuries.
This video is for those considering a joint replacement (JR) – especially knees or hips. Most concerning issue is the lifespan of a JR i.e. loosening hip replacements (THR) fail in ~25% after 10 years. Bone loss is seen in up to 14% during the first 3 months after THR. Loosening often starts as early as 12 months after JR. Loosening is caused by inflammation in the bone. After all the prosthetic is a foreign material and the body reacts to it. Loosening eventually leads to Revision surgery. Revisions have poorer outcomes than initial JRs. Since PEMF therapy improves bone mass, decreases inflammation, and stimulates circulation and repair, it is an important tool in JRs.
There are numerous studies using medium to high intensity PEMFs showing they make a big difference in outcomes and suffering. PEMF treatment before surgery prepares the bone for the surgery. One 75-year-old woman who used PEMFs before and after her THR only needed two doses of pain medication after the surgery and only needed a cane for two days. Also, treatment after surgery helps with recovery. In one study Bone density scanning after surgery showed between 66 and 93% improvement in bone density in those who had PEMFs compared to normal. PEMFs help integrate most implanted materials with bone. This is called osteo-integration. Having a JR is a major decision and major surgery. PEMFs improve recovery and help keep the bones healthy afterwards. I strongly recommend a more proactive approach to be sure the surgery is worth the pain and suffering.
PEMFs have been studied for treating loosened prostheses and after revision surgery. Loosened prostheses lead to the need for a revision. In one study, 132 patients had PEMF therapy for advanced loosening of their prosthesis. They had 2-3 treatments a day with a 30 Gauss PEMF for 20 weeks. 5 years later 70% did not need a revision. They then studied >1,000 patients with loosened hip JRs. PEMF was 30 gauss, 2-20 Hz. Rx for 6 months or pain free. successful in 70%. Crutch use went from 76% to 48%. At 10 years after, surgery wasn’t needed >65%. The average treatment time was 16 weeks. The number with permanent pain went from 54% to 6.5%. Painkiller use went from 36% to 2%. Researchers found that PEMFs are best at the early stage of loosening. Research in patients having hip revisions with 20 Gauss PEMF 6 h/d showed bone mineral density (BMD) more than double the improvement and about 50% less pain. PEMF treatment required patient commitment. While the research is showing significant benefits from using PEMFs before, immediately after and for maintenance of joint replacements, the science of how this happens is still being unraveled. There are many scientifically established aspects to how this works, but more work needs to be done. It is becoming clear that higher intensities, at least over 20 Gauss used for longer treatment times, daily, have higher long-term success than shorter treatment times or lower intensity treatments. I had a personal experience with a titanium dental implant. The surgeon couldn’t believe how well it integrated. He had only seen this one other time in 17 years of practice.
This video is going to be about the intensity of pulsed magnetic fields or PEMFs. There’s much information about intensity. Manufacturers make claims about their device intensities and say that their device intensities are the only ones that work. This is clearly untrue.
I have worked with PEMF devices of all intensities, I’ve read thousands of research articles on the effectiveness of PEMFs for various health conditions. In fact, I’ve published a chapter in a scientific book on this the scientific term for it is dosimetry, this is the intensity of the stimulus, the amount of time, the volume of tissue being stimulated, and the desired outcome this is all based on two laws of physics. Faraday’s law and the inverse square rule PEMFs help the body by stimulating energy our charge of the tissues. Faraday’s law requires that the more charge needed for healing the higher the intensity that PEMF needs to be. Faraday’s law is a scientific term DB/DT where D is change B is intensity and T is time, this means the change in intensity over the change in time. the higher the intensity reached in the shortest time the higher the DB DT. the higher this value the greater the energy produced in the tissues some high intensity PDFs have DB DT s high enough to cause muscles to contract I have found them to be very effective. the other law is the inverse square rule magnetic field intensities drop off the farther the tissue being stimulated is from the source of the magnetic field so based on Faraday’s law intensities need to be high enough to generate enough charge to create change in the tissues.
The amount of energy needed right next to an applicator may be much lower if the tissue is next to the applicator however if one is treating the entire lung heart or liver as examples, then clearly the higher magnetic field intensity levels are necessary to provide sufficient stimulation to the entire organ. some examples 2 inches from a 1,000 Gauss stimulator the magnetic field has dropped to around 20 Gauss this is a 98 percent drop in intensity but 20 Gauss is still clinically effective a 100 micro Tesla or one Gauss PEMF at 3 inches into the body drops to 1.2 micro Tesla a whopping 99 percent drop in intensity. So, there is little magnetic field left to generate charger to heal one review of the medical literature actually found that very low intensity PEMFs around 100 micro Tesla provide little benefit for a number of different chronic health conditions. most research show a benefit for specific health conditions used magnetic fields greater than 30 to 50 goes much of this is covered in my soon-to-be released book power tools for health where I provide over 500 references for over 50 health conditions and topics on what intensities worked best.
PEMF systems should be selected based on the unique needs of an individual intensities range from extremely low to low, medium, high and very high extremely low would be around 10 micro Tesla low would be between 1 and 10 dose medium would be between 10 and 100 Gauss high would be up to 4000 Gauss and extremely high would be MRI machines between 20,000 and 40,000 Gauss most clinical studies use intensities ranging from 10 to 1,000 Gauss in fact there are new recently FDA-approved PEMFs that treat depression and they’re also used for many other health conditions. They get up to around 4,000 Gauss or higher even. low intensity PEMFs need more and longer treatments. Medium to high intensity PEMFs can improve symptoms in less than a month with just minutes a day of treatment. I’ve seen a number of muscular problems disappear with just 2 to 3 hours of treatment using high-intensity PEMFs. Reality is people can’t spend a lot of time treating various parts of their bodies, that means that a whole-body magnetic system of sufficient intensity is usually equal to or greater than 30 Gauss does the job much more efficiently.
There are about seven million Americans that have psoriasis and they have lesions all over the skin. They complain of burning, itching, soreness, and can have significant social embarrassment. Many patients with psoriasis also have psoriatic arthritis, in other words they can have pains in their joints in various parts of the body. Current treatments for psoriasis include creams, drugs, light therapy, and more recently immunotherapy. Unfortunately, immunotherapy is only about 33% effective and can damage the immune system.
Yes, pulsed electromagnetic fields or PEMFs. Research shows that PEMFs can reduce mast cells in the skin. Mast cells are the cells that cause itching, they can do this by over 200 percent. Also, they reduce inflammation they reduce inflammatory cells and they can reduce the total number of plaques or the lesions in the skin by between 75-100%. Also, they are synergistic with light therapies and even natural sunlight. So what kind of a PEMF system should somebody consider? High intensity systems will do the job better faster, but low intensity and medium intensity can also work, they will just take longer.
Five patients with PV and three patients with PA were given daily fifteen-minute treatments for three weeks with PEMF of 50 Hz sinusoidal, 50 G with a coil that circled the pelvis. Eight control patients received a placebo treatment. None received either UV-A or Psoralen therapy prior to the PEMF treatment, although they did receive coal tar along with the PEMFs. Blood evaluations were done before and after three months of therapy, and clinical progress was also observed. Inflammatory cell phagocytosis, which is highly activated in a chronic disease like psoriasis, decreased to normal levels. T-helper and natural killer cells increased following PEMF therapy. IgG significantly increased. PEMFs caused slight paling of psoriatic lesions, but no significant effect on the arthritic process.
As you can see, PEMFs are a helpful and supportive tool that people with skin conditions such as psoriasis can benefit from.
The Medithera PEMF system is ideal for those who are chemically or electrically sensitive. In this video, Dr. Pawluk explains when and why he suggests the Medithera system for patients.
This is the Medithera. I originally got involved with the Medithera home system because of this signal. I had again worked with other whole-body magnetic systems that had both local applicators as well as the whole body applicators and I knew, I recognized that there were signal differences among these various systems and one of the aspects of these systems is some of them actually are fairly old technologies.
Now that’s still very effective, but they’re older technologies and we’ve learned over the years that there could be some issues with some of the frequencies that are in those technical other devices and sometimes those frequencies create sensitivities for people. So what we wanted to do is to have a system that had very pure signal, that was much more like what we call an action potential in the body. It’s much more like that of the electrical signal of the cells in the body and also the engineers that would develop this realized because of the what we call “electro smog” or “dirty electricity” and line currents and other issues that come into the machine, they actually end up in the applicators so the Medithera engineers clean that up so it’s one of the cleaner signals that we have.
It allows you to select a relaxed program, it allows you to select basically a wellness and balancing middle-of-the-road program and it still has an active program. You have ten different settings that you can change the intensities with and so I recommend it to patients largely who have sensitivities who are a whole-body system and particularly want a newer technology.
Bone density changes progressively with age. As we lose bone density the risk of fractures increases. Loss of Bone density involves every bone in the body. Women lose bone density worse than men.
Mild bone loss is osteopenia and more significant loss is osteoporosis. Osteopenia typically progresses to osteoporosis if not treated. 50% of women between 50 to 70 have osteopenia. 55% of women and men > 50 have osteoporosis. Why are osteopenia and osteoporosis important? the main goal is to prevent disabling fractures due to bone loss. 1 in 3 women and one in five men >50 will have an osteoprosis fracture. Lifetime risk for hip, forearm and spinal fractures is 40% Hip and spine Fractures cause major disability. ~10% of these people become dependent on others for care and 19% ending up in a nursing home. Therefore, safe and effective prevention and treatment are desperately needed. Current medications for osteoporosis have major drawbacks including the poor healing caused by the medication of any future fractures. PEMFs have been shown in numerous studies to safely and without toxicity improve osteopenia and osteoporosis. To be most effective PEMFs should be used along with nutrition and other lifestyle support methods. The best PEMFs for helping with osteopenia and osteoporosis are higher intensity whole body PEMF systems >25 gauss because of the need to reach every bone in the body. For more information and a free short report on what I recommend to my own patients contact us at drpawluk.com.
Long-term whole-body treatment is recommended. These conditions are not just limited to the hip and spine. Bone mineral density testing is typically only done on the lumbar spine and the hip. Clearly, these conditions involve the entire skeleton with increased risk of fractures anywhere in the body, not just the spine and hip.
PEMFs cannot be relied upon as a sole treatment. They need to be combined with adequate nutrition, supplements, exercise, and proper hormone balancing or replacement. I have several patients who have demonstrated positive impacts on their bones using these combinations of treatment, and without the need to resort to drugs like Fosamax.
Dr. Pawluk explains how one could benefit from the use of the MicroPulse portable PEMF system. To find out more technical details about the MicroPulse head over to the product page for more information by clicking here!
This is the micro pulse ICES. ICES stands for inductively coupled electrical stimulation, so basically, what this magnetic system is doing is to create electrical stimulation effectively in the tissues without using electricity. To do that directly applied to the body so it’s a portable system which makes it very handy and you can apply to the body using any kind of wraps; you can put in a shirt and stick the coils in a pocket or under a belt or down a pant leg, etc.
The field intensity is very nice with it being a bit over 200 Gauss. When the two coils are put together each coil individually is about a hundred gauss each so there’s two separate sets of coils they can be used together or they can be used apart. The unit is very portable, very light, and it has four intensity settings related to it. It has an audio jack that plugs it into the into the end of the unit there and there’s a battery in here and this is a battery cover so the battery doesn’t get dislodged easily. Powered by a 9-volt battery you can use rechargeable batteries. When you turn it on and it beeps to show you that it’s actually working. Each unit comes with two sets of coils, and as an accessory doesn’t come standard but which is inexpensive to buy is a 9-volt battery adapter so what this allows you to do is to plug it in to electrical current to an outlet and then run it from the outlet rather than using a battery life. If you have to be at home or you want to use it through the night because it operates continuously as long as the battery’s attached or it’s powered up it will run constantly.
The history of this unit was the signal itself was developed by an engineer who designed a system for NASA for an experiment NASA was conducting and that experiment had to do with stimulating stem cells. There have been other studies done since then with that unit showing that it does in fact have significant capability of actually healing tissues. I use it myself like I do all magnetic systems that we work with and I find it’s very effective because I can wear it and go on about my business. I’m not tied to having to be plugged into an electrical outlet if I don’t want to!
The Earth Pulse is a local, powerful PEMF device primarily intended to improve sleep. In this video, Dr. Pawluk explains when and why he suggests the Earth Pulse device for patients.
This is the earth pulse device. I was originally introduced to the earth pulse and became involved with the earth pulse because it’s one of the few systems at the time that we began to work with it that could operate upwards of 12 hours.
You can operate for extended periods of time it does have to be plugged in. You can get an adapter we can plug it into a car as well so it’s got that length of time that it can be used for and one of the primary design features of this, that I’ve actually had some input in in terms of how it should be designed, is to be able to be used for sleep. So that’s what are the primary values you could actually set it up for a specific frequency sets in sleep you can do it for light sleep and you could do it for deep sleep but also a setting for relaxation, it has a recovery program, as well that helps with healing.
The applicator is attached by long cord to the control unit that allows you to be able to actually place the applicator on different parts of the body, so it can be used for local treatment. For example, you could put it to the base of the head for treatment of headaches, you can put over a shoulder to treat a shoulder problem, over the back etc. It has a pretty good field intensity for a device this small and it’s designed the coil is designed to deliver a fairly high intensity magnetic field making it very useful for a wide range of applications.
